Amber has made a deal with the devil.
To protect her incubus boyfriend, Irix, from the angels, Amber has agreed to journey to Hel and assist the humans there with their failing agricultural program. It's a project the botany major and half-elf/half-succubus would normally love, but the elves are stickers for genetic purity and consider her an abomination. Once in Hel, Amber must avoid the elves who would kill her, steer clear of demons who would love to add her to their collections, and somehow manage to create a Garden of Eden out of an arid desert. Human lives depend on her skills, and Irix's continued freedom depends on her honoring her contract with Satan.
Cornucopia HalfBreed Book 3 eBook Debra Dunbar
This book was much better than I expected. Not that I ever expect something mediocre from Debra Dunbar, but clearly I'm no elf; the restoration of the failing ecosystem in Libertytown, Dis didn't sound all that exciting. What I didn't expect was how much Ambers's sexual encounters would add to the story. Her incubus half was able to bring the hidden fantasies and unknown depths of a warmonger demon, a charming and loyal little Low and even Kirby the Mage to the surface in a way that was surprisingly... touching. (Seriously, the Lows need their own book. I'd take them into my human household if I could - as long as they didn't expect me to boink them!;-))
There was even a little spoiler regarding Andor, the future angelic babysitter in there. Looks like he's in for the time of his (love) life in the human world;-)
I can't wait (!!!) for Queen of the Damned! No seriously, I.Can't.Wait!

Cornucopia HalfBreed Book 3 eBook Debra Dunbar Reviews
This short was great! Debra Dunbar never disappoints! I hope that some of the demon characters appear in longer works later, and I can't wait for more of this series. Plus, I chuckle every time I think about a demon gate at Columbia Mall. If you've ever been there at the holidays than you can believe that there's one there.
Rutter is so cute! Amber has a great adventure and discovers some more of her elf-side. Got to help the humans. Excellent read!
Debra Dunbar's books have been on my automatic buy list but this was a very short story. Not entirely pleased. I thought things were just getting going and then it was done.
Debra Dunbar is always good for number enjoyable read. Her previous two about Amber were very good. This one is interesting, but not as in-depth as the first two. To be honest, it is a bit rushed, lacking some of the normal philosophical depth Dunbar provides. It is still a worthy read, IMHO, especially if you want to read in order. Maybe I am being too harsh, as Dunbar is such an excellent writer on many levels, so I guess I expect too much from her. I did enjoy it and recommend it.
As Always I Wish Happy Reads to All from the Unapologetic Book Junkie!
This is a huge disappointment! I expected so much more! Wait, you don't think I'm talking about the writing do you? Of course not! This is, after all, Debra Dunbar and she does NOT disappoint. Period. No, I was talking about the length of the book. Yes, I realize it's a novella, and shorter, but I wanted more. MORE!
That being said, either I've forgotten some things about Amber or she has grown a lot since book 2. No matter, she is much better now and she was really good already.
That's all I will tell about the story except that you really need books 1 and 2 first. That and part of her "personality" is stronger now and she continues to grow. All in a good way.
Half succubus, half elf Amber is going to Hel.
The elf enslaved humans of hel have recently, in part, won their
freedom, but with the ongoing Elf Invasion of Earth, the high elves
who stablized the climate of the formerly temperate zones have gone
and the grudgingly ceded territories are now slowy turning to desert.
As part of a bargain with Sam to attach her full Succubus lover to Sam's
household so he can come and go on Earth without angelical smiting,
Amber has agreed to use her new Botany degree as well as her powers
to try and find and nurture crops that will sustain the humans as the
elves withdraw. It won't be easy but it may not be helpless because after
all, the dwarves aren't too far from human and they eat *something*.
It's a task that leads Amber on several quests and into several beds
(including the Wizard Kirby's where we learn in a rather touching, if hot,
scene what makes him tick). It's a rather short book (though longer than
the recent Nyalla story), and I would like to see more of Amber in this setting.
There's short stories and then there's... short stories. And despite the fact that this is advertised as "book 3" it's only about 80 pages long and barely gets going before it ends. It's like she wrote the first 1/4 of a book and decided not to wait to publish it. I did not feel like I got my money's worth in reading it.
